KCC field trip

Today we went to Kapiolani community collage to learn more about cooking. We went there to learn more recipes, and to better our cooking skills. Some of the new recipes that we learned were cous cous, crunchy hand salad with tasty vinaigrette, honey miso dressing, and Moroccan chicken with preserved lemon and olives. My personal favorite out of all the dishes was the chicken. The reason it was my favorite was because of its spices along with the way it was prepared. I also liked the texture.

The first recipe that I did was the crunch hand held salad with tastes vinaigrette. This dressing was very salty and I liked that about it however what I didn't like was how oily the dressing was however the dressing might have been our fault because we did put a little bit to much inside the jar. This recipe was very easy because all you had to do was combine all the ingredients and shake.

The second recipe that my group maid was the honey miso dressing which was maid with many ingredients and was a little harder to prepare that's the first sauce however it was still easy. This sauce had more of a basic taste to it since there was no lemons or other acidic fruits in the sauce. I liked this sauces taste more that the crunchy hand salad with tasty vinaigrette because of those reasons.

The third thing that we had to make was cous cous. This dish was very simple and easy to make and it didn't take that long to cook. It was very easy to cook because it had very few components to the dish and the parts that we did have to cook were easy. They were easy because all you had to do was allow the mixture of chicken broth olive oil and salt to boil and then place cous cous inside, then combine it with vegetables and allow it to sit.

The fourth and final dish which in my opinion was the hardest to make because you had to do a lot of technical things to the dish, and there were many ingredients to cut up. This dish also took the longest time to prepare because we had to wear it for 45 minutes however the combination of flavors was my favorite.

Humanities dishes

In the past 2 weeks we had an assignment to recreate 2 of the dishes that we learned on our kid field trip the two dishes that I choose to replicate were the carrot cake parfait, and rice with chicken broth. I re created those two dishes and I also did the marinated lemon recipe for my team. I choose to recreate e those 2 dishes because I thought that those two dishes were my favorite. I liked the carrot cake parfait because it was a perfect combination of flavors and the flavors in the carrot cake parfait complemented each other perfectly, and I liked the rice dish so much because no matter what your eating it complements that dish and it is very delicious.

I maid the carrot cake parfait the same way they did however I think that my proportions were a little off because I couldn't measure it. I also learned that I need to be a bit more carful while slicing the hard part of a pineapple because I almost cut my figure if it hadn't been for my quick actions. The reasons that I think my proportions were off was because I didn't have the same slice of carrot that they gave me and I'm not sure wether or not I had the same shredder that they had at KCC. However I replicated the recipe with few minor adjustments.

The second recipe I did was rice inside a pan that had seared onions in it that was placed in the oven filled with chicken broth and it was slowly cooked. I maid this dish and my mom, and my dad had it for dinner along with spicy chicken that my mom prepared. I cooked this with the same specifications except for the sheet they used in they end however that sheet always mainly used so that the rice on the top of our dish wouldn't get hard and crunchy.

I can't wait until our second culinary field trip and I can't wait to learn the new recipes.

Humanities humanities

The beginning of an era began in 1890 with George Washington Williams "an open letter to his serene majesty Leopold ll". The letter began an era because it announced the fall of the Belgian empire in 1890 simply stating " do not weep for me my companion; I know that my country , now suffering so much, ' will be Abel to defend its independence and its freedom. Long live the Congo ! Long live Africa !" The second act in this story occurs in 1955, 65 years later. With the congolese TV from Kinshasa in French. This news report states "I salute the leaders of Angola and the democratic republic of Congo". The third piece of the puzzle was Patrice lumimba's Independence Day speech on June 30th 1960. Simply declaring independence for the democratic republic of Congo saying "victorious fighters for independence, today victorious" marking the end of a long hard fought battle were the people of Congo proved to be victorious. The fourth event in this long struggle was the speeches and writings of Patrice lumimba which in my opinion was made to prove the faults in the government because it had statements such as " your majesty's government is deficient". The next 4 stages in the puzzle all occurs in 1970 with a common relationship of Nixon. I believe that all of those writings are connected because all of them starting with a address to people and the addresses are all have similar people to whom there addressed to and they all have the common topic of democratic republic of Congo. The last piece of the puzzle occurred July 16 1999 which was about the death of mzee Laurent-Desire saying " tragic circumstances have lead tho the unexpected death of the president of the republic" I think that this marked the end of an era for the democratic republic of Congo.

I believe that all these articles relate because they all have the common purpose of explaining the history of the democratic republic of Congo. I think that the history behind Congo is similar to ours because they fought for there independence and they had help along the way like America receiving help from France while fighting the British as Congo did from other places.

Work blog 3

This has been the 3rd day that we have been working and I belive that we are continually working well and diligently. Today we mainly focused on sanding down our cuts and we began gluing our slabs on. We were only Abel to finish gluing two sides of our system and I think that next class we will be Abel to finish gluing the cups on the outside of our system. I was Abel to finish doing the recipie packet for our tabel. I think my tabel is becoming a better team because me and Liam were agreeing upon every aspect of building yesterday.

Work day 2 not 15

This was the 2nd day that we worked on our systems and my group continues to make progress on our systems because our group was Abel to make our tower system self standing. Even though our system is self standing it dosent mean that our system workes because we haven't plunged in our mortar and we haven't glued any peices to the pvc pipe. I think that my group might be Abel to finish building our system in the next class period and i also belive that we will be Abel to finish all of the the documents such as the recipt item identification.

Scramble for Africa humanities

Today in humanities class we played a game called scramble for Africa. The point of this game was to try and occupy as much land as possible. We also had to follow an objective that was given to us. This was a short activity however I still enjoyed it.

Our map looked somewhat like the real map with Italy occupying the top parts near Italy. I think that great Britten could have occupied more lower land. Even with great Britten not occupying those areas I believe that he followed the directions that was listed on his paper. I liked being Italy because Italy had a simple directive to be near its main country, and I fell that I was able to do that well. I liked playing this game and I hope we get to play it again.

Working today both

Today we were working on our tower system and I fell in hat all of us worked hard however I think that wo could have worked more diligently because when we were using the saw there were two of us working on cutting out of the holes and the other two were looking while we were cuting. However while we weren't using the saw we were doing realy well because Nari and liam were working on tracing the holes and me and Dane were doing desk work.

Video humanities

  1. http://youtu.be/Rrpg2Wq2pgE

Our video was about Africa and what we did was place photos that were about the question under and do a voice over. I think that we worked well together and we did a good job on this video. This video was about questions that we needed to answer. Those questions that we had to answer were How did the Atlantic Slave Trade start, how was it maintained, and how did it end? Who were the participants (willfully and unwillfully) in the Atlantic Slave Trade, and how did it affect their lives? How and why did European nations colonize Africa? What consequences and changes did colonialism in Africa bring? What was the transition like from colonialism to independence in Africa? What are legacies of the colonial period that Africa still has to deal with? I answered all of the even questions while my partner answered all the odd ones.
