Work blog 14

During this work day I set out to accomplish 3 tasks. Those three tasks included the website, instruction manual, and the presentation of plating. I was able to accomplish only 2 of those tasks. I was able to finish the presentation which was very easy in my opinion, and present it to the whole class, however the visitors came to our class and I had to go down to the pen to present our system which is easy for me because I practice my presentation skills during class when visitors come. When I was down there I was working on the instruction manual and emailing the edits to Liam, however when I came up after I had presented our system Dane told me Nari did no work at all and Nari said the reason why she didn't do any work is because she was playing games with friends so her friends wouldn't do bad things. Dane was trying realy hard to finish the website and he got a lot done. Liam was able to get a fairly large amount of the Manuel done however he couldn't finish it entirely. I think that he didn't see my emails to that I sent him and that is why he couldn't finish the Manuel.

 

I think that I was able to communicate well with my team because I texted them when I was down at the pen and I told them what they had to say during the presentation. I also didn't argue with Liam today which was great. I was also able to present my system with the visitors well. I am happy with what I was able to accomplish today.

Work blog 13

Today during this work day I was able to complete many tasks some tasks that I completed was planting some tomato seeds and poblano pepper seeds in my teams plant bed. I planted those seeds because that is what the calendar said I needed to plant. I was also able to work on my teams time management for the cooking competition. I worked on this by assigning my teammates task that they have done before and fell comfortable doing. For example I gave liam the polenta because he had made the polenta 2 times before. Managing the time was an easy task for me because I had prepared this whole dish at home by myself and I new how long it took to cook everything. I hope that we don't have to Chang our recipe anymore because I don't want to have to redo the time management. I also worked on the engineering section on the website for a short while. I manly imported pictures and spell checked everything.

I think that I worked well with my group because we weren't arguing as much as we had in the past. I liked the way we were working today and I am glad that this is how we worked

Cooking field trip

During this field trip we were given the opportunity to cook the dish that we are going to cook in the final competition for practice. I think that our dish is harder to cook than other teams because we have many components to our dish which are harder than other groups. For example after we cook our chicken we have to roast the vegetables in the same pan and that's harder because it takes up a lot of time and you can't make any mistakes when cooking the chicken because if you burn the chicken there is a black residue left on the pan and it makes it a lot harder to cook the vegetables with ought the vegetables being burnt. That is one reason why I thought making this dish was hard to cook. Another reason why making this dish was difficult was because we were one group member short. Nari was absent to the field trip. Since Nari was absent on the day of the field trip we had to work with ought her and we had to borrow ingredients from other teams. The ingredients we needed to borrow was chicken and butter, unfortunately the group that had butter didn't have any extra so we made out polenta with ought butter. Today I lerned how to make polenta withought butter and that we need to start the polenta before anything because it takes the longest to cook.

While we were cooking our dish at Kapiolani community collage cooking facilities we worked really well together and we were able to finish our dish a bit earlier than other groups. As we were working we cooperated with each other through every step of the process and I believe that this is what made us such a good team.

Something's that we can improve upon are telling what step your on and cleaning up because we weren't the best at those things. I think that during this cook of we were functioning better because I told each group member what they were responsible for and how they should cook it, and a day before the competition I organized our teams assignments for the day. I assigned them according to what my teammates have done in previous competitions for example I knew that liam has made polenta before so I assigned him to make the polenta. I took all the tasks that Nari was supposed to do.

Work blog 12

 

During today's work period I was primarily focused on dividing up my groups ingredients. In order to do this Iused ms.calabro and the Safeway website as resources to find out the prices. After I found the prices I labeled the price next to the food and I added them up and tried to find a good average price. For example I found out that chicken is really expensive however lemons only cost $1.50. So I paired the most expensive items with the cheapest and found a good common price however I couldn't make it perfeI'm ct so my price costed $1.77 more. I also worked on the website. The reason why I was working on the weI bsite was because I needed to check all the checkpoints off. I was mainly focused on importing my teams trailer along with the recipe info graphic and the recipe packet. Another item I was able to finish was the draft for the instruction Manuel and I got my instruction Manuel edited by mr.kaneko. Mr.kaneko told me that I needed to include a table of contents along with a recommended pH and TDS. I was able to complete these edits by the end of class.

I fell that me and liam were arguing too much however I think that we were able to get over our differences and work together to finish all of our tasks.

Work blog 11

This was the tenth work day of the second semester and it wasn't as busy as the others because during this work day I only had one task that I needed to complete and I was able to complete it. The task that I needed to complete was redoing the recipe packet and dividing the recipe by steps. The reason why I needed to section my recipe was because my teachers told me i needed to. I also needed to fix my recipe for the nutritional analysis because on my recipe I accidentally wrote 1 and 1/2 cups of Parmesan cheese when it was suppose to be 1/8th a cup. I was also able to lower the amount of flower from 4 cups to 3.5 cups. I was also interviewed by Liam for the end of the year film. I also worked on my system a little by tying up the tomato plants so that they would have support as they grow.

I think that Nari was playing games for half the class because every time I looked at her iPad screen she was. She also denied it however I new that she was playing games.

Work blog 10

On this work day I had to glue up a leak in my system. This was a fun task because I'm usually stuck doing a desk job like the recipe packet or the web site. Gluing up the leak in my system wasn't the only task I completed. I also worked on the website for my group specifically the procedure page. I worked on elaborating upon every step. I also worked on fixing up my groups info graphic because one of my group members didn't do what we thought they would do.

 

The grade I would give myself during the joint classes is an A because I work really hard during class and never play games. I also work through breaks most of the time. I would give liam an A because he always completes his tasks and works hard. Liam is also good at helping other people in our group. I would give dane a b+ because he try's his hardest to work well and he has improved a lot. The only bad thing about dane is once he completes a task he does not know what to do next and he often stops and play games. I would give Nari an D- because she is rude to all of us and complains about working. She yells at us because she does not get her way and often disappears from the group a lot. Nari dose not do any work in our group and complains about us trying to talk to her. For example we gave her an info graphic to work on for 4 class periods and she didn't even fulfill the necessary steps for us to get full credit and once me and liam confronted her she said that she didn't have enough time even though I supplied all the necessary information to receive full credit and told her what she needs to add. She does not communicate with us either.

Work blog 9

On this work day I did a lot of tasks some of those tasks included checking the pH and tds of our system and raising it because our initial tds was 890 and we wanted it to be 1100 and our pH was 5.9 and we wanted it to be 6.0 another thing I worked on today was answering the questions and dividing the ingredients list accordingly. I looked on the Safeway website and used there prices. Our prices came out similar because of this. This task was very different for me because I only wrote the packet but now I had to divide the ingredients for the dishes. One more thing I worked on today was the website. Working on the website was sort of new to me because usually dane works on it however I decided to step in and help him because we had to do a lot of work on the website.

I worked really hard during this class period. I think that my collaboration was very good and I am happy with the work that I did.

Work blog 8

On this work day I worked primarily on drilling holes in my system and making supports for tomato plants. The reason why I needed to make supports for my tomato plants was because tomatoes are a very large plant and if they don't have any support to hold them up they will fall and they won't be able to grow right. We fixed it by adding fence posts on the side of the place were the tomatoes are suppose to grow. Another task I completed today was changing the recipe packet format so it would fit in the nutrition packet. I was able to complete this task. I also worked on our website and I edited it according to what he thinks is needed. Our website needed an engineering page and better organization I worked on organizing while dane worked on the engineering page. I also took pictures of the plants for my groups time lapse.

During the seventh work day I worked really hard on the recipe info graphic revisions. I worked on revising the information while Nari worked on making the drawings. I think that this isn't that challenging since there is very little criteria to fulfill. I hope that it gets more difficult. Another thing I worked on through this workday was the recipe packet I worked on this once more because I am the only one who knows the recipe which scares me. I also spent today telling people what they will be doing at the final cook of and how they will be preparing there portion. I also worked with mr.kaneko on making a table for the electric saw which was fun because it felt with building and I enjoy building.
